Heather Beard
Spaces Between
May 17 through June 17, 2007
Hartford, CT— Real Art Ways
presents a photographer Heather Beard's Spaces Between,
opening Thursday, May 17 during Creative Cocktail
Hour, from 6-9pm. Creative Cocktail Hour is $8/Free for Real Art
Ways members. There is a $3 suggested donation for regular gallery
hours.
Heather
Noel Beard creates photographs and digital videos that show the body
within interstitial space. Just as the body is represented between
states of presence and absence, the sites are, as well. For example,
two sites of which Beard has made imagery are the former Hathaway
Shirt factory in Waterville, Maine, and the now defunct Bethlehem
Steel mill in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Using strategies of scale, tactility, and sound, Beard reveals site beyond materiality,
and viewers can oscillate between their perception and her activation of spatial
affects. In effect, this continuous becoming has the potential to change not
only viewers' specific milieus, but also the future possibility for what is represented.
Heather Beard is one of six selected artists from our 2006 open call, Open, an
exhibition series featuring six emerging artists from New York and New England.
