Art and Wrestling Collide at
Real Art Ways

Saturday, May 12, 7:15pm

Hartford, CTIs it art, or is it wrestling? Real Art Ways presents a 14-man wrestling performance by artist Shaun Leonardo on Saturday, May 12 at 7:15pm. This highly visual performance will run for 30 minutes.

Leonardo will take on 13 professional wrestlers in a fight to the finish where only one man is left standing. Surrounded by the opening night crowd, and wrestling on the lawn outside of Real Art Ways, all of the wrestlers will be in the full costume of Mexican Luchador wrestlers, designed by Leonardo himself.

This intense physical performance is entitled El Conquistador: The Battle Royale.

Shaun Leonardo uses the costumes of Mexican Luchadors (wrestlers) in startling performances that address race, masculinity, and identity.

A profile of Shaun Leonardo was featured in The Hartford Courant, Thursday, May 11, 2007. The article can be viewed here.

Located on 56 Arbor Street in the Parkville neighborhood of Hartford, Real Art Ways is one of the nation's leading contemporary arts centers, with community programming and a commitment to innovative artistic expression. Leonardo's presentation is part of the opening of 4 Solo Exhibitions.
