Real pARTy 2005

On Saturday April 9, 2005 Real Art Ways held its major fundraiser The Real pARTy. This “creative” black tie function featured former Hartford Mayor Mike Peters and New York City drag queen Hedda Lettuce as guest auctioneers.

Real Art Ways’ space underwent a major transformation for the party. 250 artists’ canvases hung on the Main Gallery walls. One gallery became the “Boom-Boom” room with Djs and dancing. Another became a place for some of the 400 guests to chill-out with video projections on the walls, a chocolate fountain and an espresso cart.

One of the highlights of the evening was the opportunity to bid on an array of unique, experiential and arts-related auction items in silent and live auctions. Featured auction items included artwork by Alexander Calder, Jasper Johns, and Sol LeWitt and experiences as varied as the opportunity to learn to ski from an Olympic ski racer to VIP tickets to the New York Burlesque Festival.

Artists were asked by Real Art Ways to create works on identical 9” x 12” canvases which were signed on the back. Each ticket purchased entitled the holder to one work of art. Selected in a random order, guests literally picked their canvas choice off the wall to take home; the identity of the artist remained unkown until the moment of selection.

Each of the canvases were created by working artists who understand and appreciate the importance of Real Art Ways, and its commitment to fostering, encouraging and exhibiting new work. We thank the contributing artists from the bottom of our collective heart.
