Marques's large-scale oil paintings interpret the stories of an aging generation
of political dissidents from literary and musical backgrounds. Based off
of interviews and conversations with Cuban artists living in Miami, Marques
fantastical paintings search for a place of clarity, nostalgia, darkness,
and joy for Cuba, a place, for many, of unrequited love.
Sabrina Marques is one of
six selected artists from our 2006 open call, Open, an exhibition series
featuring six emerging artists from New York and New England.
